Drugs in Sports

So with all of the hype throughout all of the major sports, I think it is about time for me to discuss something every person in sports needs to hear about: Drugs. MLB players like Roger Clemens and many others are doing drugs to get ahead. Now, a NASCAR driver by the name of Jeremy Mayfield tested positive for Mephaphetamine in a sport that is supposed to be the cleanest of all sports. With that said, let's take a look at what is happening to American sports.

First and foremost, 95% of the time these men are doing the drugs because they are trying to make themselves better because of pressure from the front office and management to perform or else. Even so, this is NO excuse to turn to drugs; yes I know there is a lot of pressure to perform, but if you can't DO IT WITHOUT DRUGS...then get out of the sport and work at Wallyworld (no offense to those who work at Wallyworld).

Finally, many of these men do it for the pure rush of things. It is a rush to go out there and pitch a NO HITTER or hit a homerun at 500 plus feet. But do these guys know what they are doing to the American child playing the sport? They are promoting drugs in a world that looks up to athletes and saying "hey if you can't perform that well just DO DRUGS, and they will make you better." Wrong! Drugs will mess up your head; just ask Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers, and he will tell you point blank that they mess with your head. The most common one used among high school kids playing sports is steroids. When they do it and get caught you know who they blame? THE ALL AMERICAN ATHLETE!

In conclusion, I think that it is our job as parents or coaches to take back the American sports and NOT let these addicts take over our sports. Those who practice hard at what they do will succeed no doubt. However, those who don't shouldn't even be in the sport; they should leave the rest of us TRUE American athletes do what we do best. So with that said, here are two questions for you to ponder:

  1. Have you ever encountered this problem? How did you confront it?
  2. What do you think should happen to those athletes that are caught cheating? Why?
